Transporters to raise freight rates by 8-9 pc on diesel hike

PTI  Following hike in diesel rates, transporters today said they will raise freight rates by 8-9 per cent with immediate effect on all routes across India. The impact of increase in freight rates will be visible on transportation of all kinds of goods, including perishable commodities like vegetables and industrial items.

India appreciates Pakistan’s role in safe return of sailors

Jamaat-ud-Dawah warns India against ’striking’ Pak

(PTI) Outlawed radical outfit Jamaat-ud-Dawah has warned India against “striking” Pakistan and asked it to hand over persons involved in the Samjhauta Express train bombing.

The 10-point declaration was adopted at the “Defence of Islam and Pakistan’s Stability” conference organised by JuD at the Jamia-al-Dirasat Islamia seminary in Karachi yesterday.

It called for the US to be declared an enemy of Pakistan and warned the government against releasing Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh.

The declaration also warned India against “striking” Pakistan and asked it to hand over persons involved in the 2007 Samjhauta Express train bombing, in which 68 people were killed mostly Pakistanis.

It also warned the people about alleged attempts by India, Israel and the US to destabilise Pakistan and called for unity among citizens to defend the country.

CWG scam: ED registers money laundering case against Lalli

(PTI) The Enforcement Directorate today registered a money laundering case against suspended Prasar Bharti CEO B S Lalli in connection with the awarding of the Rs 246-crore broadcast rights contract for Commonwealth Games.

The Directorate has registered the case after it found instances of violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the deal related to transfer and transaction of funds. The case was registered today, ED sources said.

The ED will now summon Lalli for questioning and recording of his statement in connection with the deal.

The case pertains to Prasar Bharati striking a Rs 246-crore deal with a UK-based broadcast firm– SIS Live– for the coverage of the Commonwealth Games that took place here last year.
