‘No more fasts, will fight for causes through agitations’

Pune, Sep 29 (PTI) Anna Hazare has said that he will not resort to fasting any more to press for his demands, and will fight for his causes through agitations.

“Now onwards I will not undertake fast. In future I will fight for my causes through agitations,” Hazare said last night at a Ganesh mandal ceremony in Pimpri-Chinchwad industrial township near here.

The anti-corruption crusader also said he would continue to work to send “clean” people to Parliament.

New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) Unfazed by the uproar over FDI in retail and other tough decisions, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today indicated that the Government may continue with the reforms process and expressed willingness to discuss issues with allies.

“We will do what is good for the country… reforms are not one-off process,” he said.

SC pulls up Karnataka for failing to comply with CRA directive

New Delhi, Sep 28 (PTI) The Supreme Court today pulled up the Karnataka government for failing to comply with the Prime Minister-headed Cauvery River Authority’s (CRA) directive to release 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu.

A bench of justices D K Jain and Madan Lokur warned Karnataka that if it failed to comply with the CRA directive, it (the bench) will have to pass appropriate orders.

UPA govt won’t last till 2014: Advani

Surajkund (Haryana), Sep 28 (PTI) Accusing the government of using the CBI to remain in power, BJP leader L K Advani today said he was “almost sure” that it will not last till 2014.

He attacked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh claiming that his contention about he being the “weakest” has regrettably come true.

“I am almost sure that this government will fall before 2014,” Advani said while addressing the National Council meeting of the party here.

Auction not the only route for resource allocation

New Delhi, Sep 27 (PTI) Auctions are not the only permissible method for disposal of natural resources across sectors, the Supreme Court today said holding that the 2G verdict was confined to allocation of spectrum and is not applicable to other resources.

Justice Murugesan takes charge as CJ of Delhi HC

New Delhi, Sep 26 (PTI) Justice Darmar Murugesan, who was a judge of the Madras High Court, was today sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

61-year-old Justice Murugesan after being elevated was transfered to Delhi in the place of Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri, who in turn has taken charge as the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Withdraw resignation: NCP MLAs request Ajit Pawar

Mumbai, Sep 26 (PTI) A crucial meeting of the NCP legislature party today unanimously decided to request Ajit Pawar to withdraw his resignation as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, a day after he quit and plunged the Congress-NCP coalition government into a crisis.

A resolution to this effect was moved by state party president Madhukar Pichad and was adopted unanimously.

“A resolution was adopted requesting Pawar to take back his resignation,” Pichad told reporters after the meeting which lasted barely 20 minutes.

Jaya accuses Karuna of double standards on issues

CWC endorses govt’s new economic reform measures

New Delhi, Sep 25 (PTI) Congress today fully endorsed government’s new economic reform measures, including FDI in multi-brand retail, as party president Sonia Gandhi saw no threat to the government.

The endorsement came at the first meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) after Trinamool Congress walked out of UPA with the party president saying the government was “stable”.
