Savita’s family to take case to European court of Human Rights

London, Nov 29 (PTI) The husband of Savita Halappanavar will proceed with an application to the European Court of Human Rights after Irish Health Minister did not agree for a public inquiry into the circumstances leading to her death.

Former Prime Minister I K Gujral no more

Gurgaon, Nov 30 (PTI) Former Prime Minister I K Gujral, who headed a rickety coalition government in the late 1990s, died today after a brief illness.

Gujral, 92, breathed his last at 3.27 PM in a private hospital after a multi-organ failure. He was admitted to the hospital on November 19 with a lung infection, family sources said.

The former Prime Minister, who was ventilator support, had been unwell for sometime.

Vote on retail FDI in Parliament, SP keeps everyone guessing

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) The logjam in Parliament over FDI in retail ended today with a discussion on the issue allowed with voting but key UPA supporter Samajwadi Party kept kept everyone guessing on its stand in Rajya Sabha where the government is in a tight position on numbers.

Trial of strength on FDI issue in Parliament next week

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) A trial of strength over FDI in retail issue will be witnessed in Parliament next week, with the Lok Sabha deciding to have a discussion on December 4 and 5 on the issue under a rule that entails voting, a strident demand of the Opposition.

While Rajya Sabha will also have a similar discussion, the date and timings for it will be decided after consultations with various political parties.

CMs of TN, Karnataka to meet tomorrow to discuss Cauvery row

Bangalore/Chennai, Nov 28 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her Karnataka counterpart Jagadish Shettar are meeting in Bangalore tomorrow on the Cauvery water sharing row heeding the Supreme Court advice amid indications that a breakthrough is unlikely.

The two leaders are expected to do some hard bargaining and stick to their position on the decades-old vexed dispute, a politically-sensitive issue on both sides of the border.

End to logjam in Parliament over FDI in sight

New Delhi, Nov 28 (PTI) An end to the logjam in Parliament on FDI in retail today appeared in sight with the government giving enough hints that it has no problem over a vote on the issue.

In an effort to break the impasse, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath, along with his deputy Rajiv Shukla, held a meeting with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and her Rajya Sabha counterpart Arun Jaitley.

Jaitley refuses to comment on Jethmalani charges

Jammu, Nov 27 (PTI) BJP leader Arun Jaitley today refused to get into a war of words with Ram Jethmalani, who has accused him of having a role in the CBI Director appointment controversy.

Replying to a question about Jethmalani, who has been suspended from the party, Jaitley said, “I don’t think he (Jethmalani) deserves the reply any more”.

We have numbers, says Prime Minister

New Delhi, Nov 27 (PTI) Amid opposition’s insistence on a discussion with voting on FDI in Parliament, Government today said it was “not concerned” over it, with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asserting that UPA has the numbers.

“Yes, we are confident of numbers,” the Prime Minister told reporters after an hour-long meeting leaders of UPA which presented a united picture.

Court issues production warrant against Abu Jundal

No consensus at all-party meet on FDI

New Delhi, Nov 26 (PTI) Consensus eluded an all-party meeting called on FDI issue today even as Samajwadi Party and BSP provided comfort to the government by not insisting on voting and Trinamool Congress sprang a surprise by speaking in a similar tone.

However, UPA ally DMK kept the suspense over its position on voting while conveying its concerns over allowing 51 per cent FDI in multi-brand retail.
