Inquiry Commission set up into rape case

New Delhi, Dec 26 (PTI) Government today set up a Commission of Inquiry to identify lapses and fix responsibility in the gang-rape of 23-year-old girl here, an issue that was discussed by the Union Cabinet with ministers expressing concern over the incident.

The one-person Commission, to be headed by former Delhi High Court judge Justice Usha Mehra, will also suggest measures to make Delhi and NCR safer for women.

Rape Case: Dikshit, Delhi Police at loggerheads

New Delhi, Dec 25 (PTI) After the blame game, an open war has broken out between Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who complained of “interference” by police officers in the recording of gangrape victim’s statement, and Delhi Police which today demanded a probe into the “leakage” of her letter to the Home Minister.

End negative perceptions about women: President

Allahabad, Dec 25 (PTI) Against the backdrop of brutal gang-rape of a young girl in Delhi, President Pranab Mukherjee today said criminal attacks against women often happen due to “negative perceptions” about them and called for an end to it.

Addressing students at the 9th convocation of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology here, Mukherjee said the government is alert to the situation and is taking necessary action to ensure that such unfortunate incidents are not repeated.

Pak ISI says linking it to 26/11 is smear attempt

Injured Delhi Police constable dies

New Delhi, Dec 25 (PTI) A Delhi Police constable who was injured in the Sunday violence at India Gate during protests against gang-rape of a girl died today, police said.

Subhash Chand Tomar (47) breathed his last at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital this morning.

He was on ventilator since his admission in the hospital.

Tomar, a graduate, hailed from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
