Willing to appear before JPC as witness: Raja to Speaker

New Delhi, Feb 23 (PTI) Blamed for a number of issues in the 2G scam, former Telecom Minister A Raja wants to appear before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) as a witness to tell his side of story.

Raja’s request to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar comes days after Attorney General G E Vahanvati blamed him for various issues before the JPC.

He has also been blamed for the 2G scam by other witnesses before the special CBI court.

AP forms 15 teams to crack blast case, Advani slams Pak

Hyderabad/Mumbai, Feb 23 (PTI) Two days after twin blasts rocked the city, the Andhra Pradesh government today claimed to have got “vital clues” to crack the case soon with the needle of suspicion zeroing in on banned militant outfit Indian Mujahideen.

“We have already gathered vital clues in the case. We are confident we will crack the case soon,” state Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy said after a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Govt will act against every terrorist module, assures NSA

Pune, Feb 22 (PTI) National Security Adviser (NSA) Shivshankar Menon today said the government will act against every terrorist module operating in the country.

While refusing to make any specific comment on the twin bomb blasts in Hyderabad, Menon told reporters here that investigations have just started.

“Don’t jump to conclusion. Once we know, we will tell you,” he said.

Replying to questions, he said, “there are different terrorist modules. They try and strike.

Twin blasts: Finger of suspicion on IM, toll climbs to 16

Hyderabad, Feb 22 (PTI) Banned militant outfit Indian Mujahideen’s name has cropped up in the preliminary investigation into the twin blasts here in which the toll climbed to 16 today.

The probe suggested that Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was used to carry out the explosions and the modus operandi was similar to blasts triggered by Indian Mujahideen in the past.

SC sets up special team to examine contents of Radia tapes

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) A six-member special team comprising five from the CBI and one from the Income Tax department was today constituted by the Supreme Court to examine the contents of tapped telephonic conversations of corporate lobbyist Niira Radia with politicians, corporate honchos and others.

Govt taking steps to revive economy: President

New Delhi, Feb 21 (PTI) Expressing concern over declining growth, President Pranab Mukherjee today said government is taking steps to revive investment activity and boost economy.

“Both global and domestic factors have affected our growth. We need to address the impact of both. My government has responded to the situation by taking several measures to revive investment activity and investor sentiment,” he said in his address to the joint sitting of Parliament at the beginning of the Budget Session.

Jallianwala Bagh killings deeply shameful: Cameron

Amritsar, Feb 20 (PTI) Nearly 94 years after over 1,000 Indian protesters were killed in Jallianwalla Bagh during the British Raj, Prime Minister David Cameron today described the incident as “deeply shameful” but stopped short of a public apology.

46-year-old Cameron, who is the first democratically elected British Prime Minister to visit the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre site, kneeled down while paying tribute to martyrs and observed one-minute silence with folded hands as a mark of respect.

We are ready to face Parliament on chopper scam: Antony

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) Bracing to face opposition heat over chopper scam in Parliament, Defence Minister A K Antony today said government has “nothing to hide” and is prepared for a discussion even as he played down reports of his resignation.

“I will do my duty. I am now getting ready for the Parliament session. We will explain everything to Parliament.

We have nothing to hide. Our hands are very clean,” Antony told reporters on being asked whether he would resign.

PM conveys India’s serious concerns on Choppergate to Cameron

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) India today conveyed to the UK its “serious concerns” over allegations of “unethical means” used to secure Rs 3600 crore VVIP chopper deal involving Anglo-Italian firm AgustaWestland, to which Britain assured all possible help while asserting that it has one of the strongest anti-bribery laws in the world.
