Want to do maximum good for people in 48 hours: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Dec 31 (PTI) Ahead of the trust vote on January 2, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said he wants to do maximum good for the people in the next 48 hours whether the government stays or not.

“Not sure of Congress and BJP. We are not bothered whether the government survives or not. We are running the government assuming that we have just 48 hours with us.

Chidambaram favours continuation of curbs on gold imports

New Delhi, Dec 30 (PTI) Notwithstanding the likelihood of the current account deficit (CAD) narrowing to less than USD 50 billion, Finance Minister P Chidambaram today made a case for continuing some kind of restriction on gold imports.

“I think there should be some restraint on gold imports.

We should also attempt to discover more gold in our own country,” he said in an interview to CNBC-TV18.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is unwell, skips office

Ghaziabad/New Delhi, Dec 30 (PTI) Newly elected Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is unwell and skipped office today, on a day he planned to make major announcements such as providing 700 litres of free water to each household.

Doctors attending on him said Kejriwal was suffering from high fever and diarrhoea and was responding to treatment.

“Kejriwal is responding to treatment. His fever has come down and diarrhoea is under control.

RBI says LS elections a “potential source of uncertainty”

26 charred to death as fire breaks out in train

Anantpur (AP), Dec 28 (PTI) A major fire ripped through an AC coach of the Bangalore-Nanded Express train, roasting alive 26 people, including two children, in sleep and injuring 13 others in the wee hours today in the district.

The fire broke out in the AC 3-tier coach B-1, fourth from the engine, near Sri Satya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam railway station, about 170 kms northeast of Bangalore, at 3:45 a.m when most of the passengers were fast asleep.

Kejriwal allocates portfolios, retains power, finance

New Delhi, Dec 28 (PTI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today allocated portfolios to his six Cabinet colleagues while keeping key departments of Home, Finance, Power and Vigilance with himself.

The Chief Minister will also keep Planning, Services and all other departments not allocated to the Ministers.

Manish Sisodia, considered close to Kejriwal, has been given the charges of Revenue, PWD, Urban Development, Education, Higher Education, Local Bodies and Land and Building departments.

New Indian envoy seeks withdrawal of charges against diplomat

Washington, Dec 27 (PTI) India’s new envoy S Jaishankar today met top US officials and sought withdrawal of charges against Devyani Khobargade even as the State Department said it was looking into the issue of full diplomatic immunity said to have been enjoyed by the diplomat at the time of her arrest.

Jaishankar, who conveyed India’s strong protest over the arrest of Khobargade, also strongly objected to the manner in which the US government evacuated Indian citizens.

UP official’s remarks draw BJP, Cong ire

Lucknow, Dec 27 (PTI) A senior UP official has stoked a controversy by saying nobody dies of cold, remarks that have been attacked as “insensitive” and condemned by opposition parties in the context of deaths of children in Muzaffarnagar relief camps.

Taking exception to the comments by Principal Secretary (Home) A K Gupta, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today asked officials to keep a check on their use of words and ensure nobody’s feelings get hurt.
