Cong leader Digvijaya Singh says in relationship with a scribe

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) 67-year-old Congress leader Digvijaya Singh today took to Twitter to announce his relationship with a woman journalist and plans about marrying her after the social media went viral about it.

“I have no hesitation in accepting my relationship with Amrita Rai. She and her husband have already filed a mutual consent divorce case…Once that is decided we would formalise it,” the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh tweeted.

45 per cent voters exercise franchise in seven states

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) About 45 per cent of the voters today exercised their franchise in the first six hours of polling in seven states and two Union Territories during the seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections that will decide the fate of political heavyweights like Narendra Modi, Sonia Gandhi, L K Advani, Rajnath Singh and Murli Manohar Joshi.

Barring skirmishes in Punjab that left 10 persons injured, voting was by and large peaceful.

Fourth phase of UP poll to seal fate of Sonia, Rajnath

Lucknow, Apr 22 (PTI) Polling for 14 seats in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh would be held tomorrow to decide the fate of 233 candidates, including political heavyweights Sonia Gandhi and Rajnath Singh.

Three Union Ministers and chairperson of a national commission are also in the fray in this phase which covers Bundelkhand region and parts of central UP.

Collegium system suitable, Fixed term for CJI, CJ not ok: CJI

New Delhi, Apr 27 (PTI) The new Chief Justice of India, R M Lodha, today said he did not agree with the idea of having fixed tenure for chief justices of high courts and the CJI and favoured continuing with the collegium system for appointment of judges in higher judiciary.

Justice Lodha, who took over as 41st CJI, however, advocated wider consultation with people outside collegium “without tinkering” with the memorandum of procedure prescribed by Law Ministry in appointment of judges.

Amethi, Apr 26 (PTI) Campaigning for her brother Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi today asked the electorate here not to vote for “outsiders”, an apparent reference his rivals Smriti Irani of BJP and AAP’s Kumar Vishwas.

Priyanka sought to strike an emotional chord with the electorate by invoking her family’s ties with the region saying Amethi was a “holy land” for her family and described Rahul as a visionary like their father Rajiv Gandhi.

New Delhi, Apr 26 (PTI) Congress today sought to dispel the notion of propping up a Third Front government to keep Narendra Modi out of power, insisting that the UPA-III would be in place after the polls.

“We are going into the elections with an intention to win and form a government. I do not know what he has said,” Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters.
