Pune village landslide: Toll goes up to 28, rescue efforts on

Pune, Jul 31 (PTI) With five more bodies being extricated today from the debris of the landslide that devastated Malin village near here, the death toll has gone up to 28 even as 150 people were still feared to be trapped under the huge mound of mud-and-rock debris.

I will write my own book: Sonia after row over Natwar Singh’s comments

New Delhi, July 31 (PTI) With former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh creating a row with his comments about Sonia Gandhi, the Congress President today said that she will come out with her own book, which will reveal the “truth”.

“I will write my own book and then you will come to know everything…the only way truth will come out is if I write…I am serious about it and I will be writing,” she told reporters in Parliament House.

Parliament rocked over Gadkari bugging row, Cong for JPC probe

New Delhi, Jul 30 (PTI) Parliament was rocked today over the alleged bugging of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s residence with Congress demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe to ascertain who ordered it but the government ruled out any investigation into a “non-issue”.

The matter was raised vociferously in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha by the Congress which alleged that the methods used in Gujarat to snoop on ministers and legislators are being employed at the Centre.

Home Minister to visit landslide affected area in Pune

New Delhi, Jul 30 (PTI) Home Minister Rajnath Singh is heading for Pune to visit the land slide affected area and review the rescue operations as nearly 170 people are feared trapped in the debris.
During the visit this evening, the Home Minister will meet the affected people and take stock of the situation arising out of the landslide at Ambegaon, official sources said.

New Delhi, Jul 29 (PTI) Seeking to seize “transformative moment” in ties with India, US Secretary of State John Kerry will arrive tomorrow for talks on key issues with the new leadership here.

Kerry’s visit two months ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Washington in September end is aimed at instilling some vigour into the bilateral ties, which appeared to have lost momentum in the final years of UPA regime.

PM holds meet with Sushma, Jaitley ahead of Kerry visit

New Delhi, July 29 (PTI) Ahead of the visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a meeting with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to discuss various aspects that are expected to figure in his talks here.

The status of the Indo-US relations was among the issues that figured in the meeting, sources said.

Saharanpur situation fully under control: HM

New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) The Centre today said the situation in violence-hit Saharanpur is fully under control and it is keeping close eye on it.

“Saharanpur situation is fully under control. We are keeping a close vigil,” Home Minister Rajnath Singh told reporters here.

Singh’s comments came a day after he briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the situation in the Uttar Pradesh town.

Row over ‘recovery’ of bugging devices from Gadkari’s home

New Delhi, July 27 (PTI) A controversy erupted over a report of bugging devices having been found in Nitin Gadkari’s residence but the Union Minister today dubbed it as “highly speculative” even as the Congress said it reflects lack of faith and mutual trust among NDA ministers.

A media report has claimed that high power listening devices were found in the bed room at the 13 Teen Murti Lane residence here of Gadkari, the Road Transport and Highways Minister.

Curfew relaxed for four hours in strife-hit Saharanpur

Saharanpur, July 28 (PTI) With the situation improving in violence-hit Saharanpur, the district authorities today relaxed curfew for four hours in the new city area to allow people to buy their daily need items from markets which were directed to remain open.
