BJP urges governor to visit violence-hit Birbhum villages

Kolkata, Oct 31 (PTI) Amidst recent incidents of political violence in the state, BJP today requested West Bengal Governor KN Tripathi to visit the trouble-torn villages of Birbhum district where it alleged there have been instances of police atrocities against locals.

“A BJP delegation was not allowed to go there, so we have appealed to the governor to visit the area as the constitutional head of the state and save the villagers.

Modi skips event at Indira Gandhi’s memorial

Delhi govt formation: SC finds LG’s efforts positive

New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) The Supreme Court today expressed satisfaction over Lt Governor Najeeb Jung’s recent moves to explore the possibility of government formation in Delhi and said that he should be given more time as “there could be a minority government with outside support”.

Referring to recent media reports, a five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu said, “Whatever I have read in newspapers, it appears that the LG has made positive moves.

Info can’t be disclosed outside specific proceedings: Swiss gov

New Delhi/Berne, Oct 30 (PTI) Amid a debate on disclosure of names of suspected black money holders, Switzerland today said information exchanged under Swiss-India tax treaty cannot be disclosed “in principle” to a court or any other body outside the proceedings of a ’specific and relevant’ case.

The comments come at a time when a Supreme Court-monitored Special Investigation Team is probing alleged stashing of black money by Indians aboard, including Swiss banks.

Jung to talk to parties on govt formation, meets Rajnath

Centre may opt for fresh polls in Delhi if no govt comes

New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI) The Centre may opt for fresh Assembly elections in Delhi if no party or group is in a position to form a government in the national capital in the present circumstances.

A top government functionary said the Home Ministry will wait for a report from the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on his efforts on exploring the possibility of government in Delhi.

“If no government formation takes place, we will have no option but to hold elections.

Prez has given consent to Delhi LG’s move to invite BJP:Centre

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) President Pranab Mukherjee has given his consent to Delhi LG’s proposal to invite BJP to form the government in the national capital, the Centre today told the Supreme Court which rapped the LG for the five-month delay in taking a decision.

The apex court said that in a democracy, President’s Rule cannot go on forever and questioned why the authorities failed to act expeditiously.

India, Vietnam decide to step up security, defence ties

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) India and Vietnam today decided to ramp up their defence and security ties that will see supply of four naval patrol vessels to Hanoi and increased training of its military personnel, a month after India extended USD 100 million Line of Credit (LoC) for defence procurement.

The decision between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung, who held wide-ranging talks here, to boost defence and security ties is likely to irk China.

India does not want Kashmir on talks agenda: Aziz

Islamabad, Oct 28 (PTI) Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said India’s “condition” that the Kashmir issue should not be raised in the Indo-Pak dialogue is not acceptable to his country, according to a media report today.

He made these remarks while addressing a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee yesterday to discuss his visit to Afghanistan, the Pak-Iran border issue and border clashes between Pakistan and India.

Neutralise JMB terror modules immediately; Rajnath tells NSA

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) With fresh inputs on the Burdwan blast indicating pan-India existence of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Home Minister Rajnath Singh today ordered immediate neutralisation of the terror modules of the banned group.

The directive came after National Security Advisor Ajit Doval briefed the Home Minister about the JMB’s network in the country as well as people associated with it.
