Govt committed to realising potential of Northeast: PM

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) Ahead of his visit to Northeastern states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the government is committed to realising the potential of the region and accelerating its progress as India will not develop till it develops.

“I would visit Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Nagaland and attend a wide range of programmes that would connect me to all sections of society, I am eagerly looking forward to being there and interacting with people,” he tweeted.

Guwahati, Nov 29 (PTI) Terming Pakistan-based terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad a constant security threat, Director of Intelligence Bureau Asif Ibrahim today said return of the battle-hardened youth from Iraq and Syria poses a new challenge to the country.

“Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad remain a constant threat to our national security,” he said addressing the 49th annual conference of DGPs, IGPs of all States, Union Territories and Central Police Organisations heads here organised by the Intelligence Bureau.

India should not have cancelled talks: Sharif

Islamabad, Nov 28 (PTI) Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said India should not have cancelled the Foreign Secretary-level talks, insisting that there was “nothing new” in consulting Kashmiri leaders ahead of a dialogue.

“We had been talking to the Kashmiri leaders in the past whenever Pakistan-India talks are held.

Jawan killed in fierce encounter in Arnia in Jammu region

Jammu, Nov 27 (PTI) A jawan was killed and three others injured today after a fierce gunbattle broke out between security forces and militants who had sneaked into Arnia border sector while an infiltration bid was foiled along the Line of Control in Rajouri district.

The fresh bloodletting came ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu region tomorrow for Assembly poll campaign.

Modi, Sharif shake hands after cold vibes

Kathmandu, Nov 27 (PTI) A warm handshake and a brief conversation between a smiling Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif replacing their cold vibes brought cheer to SAARC Summit which concluded today.

Modi put his hand on Sharif’s arm as the two leaders looked at cameras with a long handshake even as they exchanged a few sentences.

Sri Lanka has reassured India on security interest: Govt

New Delhi, Nov 26 (PTI) Sri Lanka has “reassured” that it would not do anything against the security interest of India, the government today said, in the backdrop of visits by a Chinese submarine to Colombo port.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj informed Lok Sabha that the government has taken up with Sri Lanka the recent visits of a Chinese submarine in Colombo and the neighbouring country has informed that the vessel visited for “replenishment” purposes.

Cong, oppn parties trying to save those with black money: Govt

New Delhi, Nov 25 (PTI) The Government today hit back at the Congress and other opposition parties over black money issue, saying those making noise over it now are “helping” those who have illegal money in bank accounts abroad.

Union minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters outside Parliament that BJP-led government has commenced work on bringing back black money stashed abroad.

PM Modi calls for speedy drafting of Nepal’s Constitution
