AirAsia plane debris, floating bodies found in sea

Jakarta/Singapore, Dec 30 (PTI) The debris of the missing AirAsia plane along with floating bodies of some of the 162 people on board were spotted today in the Java Sea off Indonesia, close to the area where contact was lost with the aircraft on Sunday morning.

Indonesian Transportation Ministry’s acting director general of air transportation, Djoko Murjatmodjo, confirmed that that wreckage discovered in Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, was from AirAsia flight QZ8501.

Police foil Naxal attack on cell phone tower in Telangana

Hyderabad, Dec 29 (PTI) A group of Maoists fired at a police party in Khammam district of Telangana after security forces foiled their attempt to blast a cell phone tower, police said today.

The incident occurred last night around 11 PM when a group of around 40 people comprising Maoists and militia members were trying to blast a cell phone tower in Satyanarayanapuram in the district, a senior police officer said.

Hunt on for missing jet believed to be ‘at bottom of sea’

Jakarta/Singapore, Dec 29 (PTI) The multinational search for the AirAsia aircraft that went missing after taking off from Indonesia with 162 people on board continued for the second day today amid “preliminary suspicion” that the Airbus is at the bottom of the sea.

Explosion: NIA to assist probe, police teams fanned out

Bengaluru, Dec 29 (PTI) The National Investigation Team would assist in the probe into the blast in front of a restaurant here that killed a woman and police teams have been sent to Pune and Chennai to investigate terror links.

A high-level meeting was held by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah this morning to take stock of the security situation in the wake of a blast.

Lakhvi’s detention order suspended by Pak High Court

Islamabad, Dec 29 (PTI) Mumbai attack key planner Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi is likely to be released from jail with Islamabad High Court (IHC) today suspending the notification detaining him under a public security order after he was granted bail by a court in the 26/11 case.

The suspension orders were issued by Justice Noor ul Haq Qureshi.

PDP seeks assurance from prospective partners over Art 370

Srinagar, Dec 27 (PTI) Hinting that it is ready to do business with BJP, the PDP, which has emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly elections, today sought assurance from its prospective partners over contentious issues like safeguarding Article 370 and revocation of AFSPA.

“All options are still open. No decision has been taken yet on formation of government in the state with any other party,” PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhter told PTI here.

India asks Pak to hand over Dawood

New Delhi, Dec 27 (PTI) India today asked Pakistan to hand over underworld don Dawood Ibrahim saying enough evidence have been given to it on the prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said India’s stand has been very clear for a long time that Dawood has been in Pakistan and he has been living in Karachi.

“We have been asking to hand over him to India for a long time.

Lakhvi challenges detention under MPO in Pak high court

Islamabad, Dec 26 (PTI) Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the key planner of 2008 Mumbai attacks, today challenged his detention under a public security order in the high court here after the Pakistan government rejected his plea seeking release.

“Today Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, challenging his detention under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO),” Lakhvi’s counsel Raja Rizwan Abbasi told PTI.

“Legal requirements have not been fulfilled in the detention of Lakhvi.
