Raghuvar Das stakes claim to form govt in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Dec 26 (PTI) Newly elected BJP Legislature Party leader Raghuvar Das today staked claim to form the new government in Jharkhand, three days after the BJP-AJSU party alliance won a majority in the assembly election.

Accompanied by several MLAs of the alliance partners, Das met with Governor Syed Ahmed and staked claim to form the next government.

AJSU party chief Sudesh Mahto, who lost the elections, was also part of the delegation.

Varanasi, Dec 25 (PTI) Making a strong pitch for producing good teachers in large numbers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a mission in this regard amid his assertion that the whole world is looking at India with great expectations “but we are not ready”.

He advocated introduction of a five-year training course after schooling for those aspiring to pursue a career in teaching and said the country should aim to export top-class teachers across the world.

Assam attacks: PM sanctions Rs 2 lakh each for kin of deceased

New Delhi, Dec 24 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed grief over loss of lives in Assam militant attacks and sanctioned ex-gratia relief of Rs two lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to each of the seriously injured.

An amount of Rs 86 lakh is being released to the state government from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), a PMO statement said.

Vajpayee’s long-time political colleague L K Advani said he was happy with the government decision to bestow the highest civilian award to the former Prime Minister. “I am very happy that Government has decided to honour Atal ji with Bharat Ratna.

Pak govt fails to act on Lakhvi’s bail, court vacations begin

Islamabad, Dec 23 (PTI) Pakistan government today again failed to file a plea challenging the bail to Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the key planner of 2008 Mumbai attacks, on the last working day for courts ahead of a two-week winter break, citing that the judge has not released the copy of the order.

PDP emerging as largest party in a hung house, BJP second

Pakistan govt depts were warned of school attack in August

Peshawar, Dec 22 (PTI) Authorities in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were warned of an imminent revenge attack on the army-run school here months before a Taliban-sponsored carnage claimed 148 lives, mostly that of children.

A copy of the written warning, issued on August 28, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Ministry had stated that Taliban militants have planned to attack educational institutions under the Pakistani army and their intention was revenge.

Oppn raises new demand; paralyses RS, disrupts LS

New Delhi, Dec 22 (PTI) After stalling Rajya Sabha for the most of last week, opposition today paralysed the House as it went beyond the demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reply to a debate on conversion by seeking answers from him on the issues of black money and job creation.

The opposition also disrupted the Lok Sabha, accusing the government of allowing conversions and remaining silent on poll promises like bringing back black money and providing employment opportunities.
