Delhi govt hospital docs plan day-long strike tomorrow

New Delhi, Feb 26 (PTI) At a time when swine flu cases are on the rise, resident doctors of different government hospitals in the national capital today announced that they will go on a day-long strike tomorrow.The strike was called after a doctor at Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) hospital was allegedly assaulted by the attendants of a patient late on Monday night.

Delhi govt likely to slash power tariff by half, launch free water scheme

New Delhi, Feb 25 (PTI) Delhi government is likely to slash power tariff by 50 per cent for consumption up to 400 units per month and launch a free water scheme today in line with election promises made by Aam Aadmi Party.

Sources said the AAP government may announce free 20,000 litres of water to every household per month.

“The government is going to announce its decision to cut power tariff by 50 per cent,” they said.

Jaishankar’s SAARC yatra from Sunday, in Pak on March 3

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar will undertake ‘SAARC yatra’ from Sunday starting with Bhutan and will travel to Pakistan on March 3, marking the resumption of Indo-Pak talks with India maintaining it stands ready to discuss all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir.

Afghanistan won’t allow anti-India elements on its soil:envoy

Kolkata, Feb 25 (PTI) Afghanistan will never allow its territory to be used for any anti-India activity, Afghan ambassador Shaida Mohammad Abdali said here and dismissed apprehensions that withdrawal of NATO forces may allow the Taliban to make a comeback.

“We can assure that we would never allow Afghanistan to go back to the dark era of Taliban or use of its territory for any kind of anti-India activity. India is a dear friend of Afghanistan.

Govt trying to ‘mislead’ people on Land Act: Hazare

New Delhi, Feb 25 (PTI) Social activist Anna Hazare, who is spearheading agitation against amendments in the Land Acquisition Act, today rubbished Government’s claim that these were more “effective” and “farmer-friendly”, saying it was trying to mislead the people.

Hazare said the BJP government has misled people on several fronts including the black money issue and decentralisation of power, while asking for votes in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

With higher funds, states can design schemes as per need: PM

New Delhi, Feb 24 (PTI) Indian Government has accepted the Finance Commission’s recommendations for a substantial hike in share of states in central taxes and asked them to tailor make schemes as per their needs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday.

In a letter to all Chief Ministers, Modi said the states are free to change Centrally Sponsored Schemes and plan the course of their development.

J-K to have BJP-PDP govt as Mehbooba, Shah finalise CMP

More India-Israel joint defence projects on anvil

New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) Reflecting rapid expansion in military ties, Israel has said it was ready to share cutting-edge defence technologies with India and both countries will go for co-development of a number of key weapon systems soon.

Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon said both countries have overcome hurdles in co-development of Barak 8 missile defence system and work on another key project of aerial defence systems was on track.
